A decree of the prefect, dated July 31, 1990, requires the Université de Paris VI and the Institut Curie to remediate the site. Several phases of the cleanup have already taken place. In 1992 the rich minerals, the sources, and the most dangerous products were evacuated [Andra 96]. As of June 1999 the contaminated areas were closed or walled in. But the wastes, including contaminated laboratory equipment and containers of contaminated effluents, remained to be taken away, and the buildings and their surroundings still had to be decontaminated.

During the remainder of 1999, according to Andra, numerous chemical products were to be removed and a trench made secure. Also in 1999, specifications for the removal of equipment, furniture, and various products were being drawn up. They must be removed before a thorough diagnosis of the condition of the ground and buildings can be made [Andra 99].
