ILE DE FRANCE-PETITE COURONNE

FORT DE MONTROUGE

Purpose/type: storage place for military waste

Location: commune of Arcueil

Operator: Délégation Générale pour l’Armement

Nuclear materials: tritium

For “numerous years” the fort, a part of old fortifications of Paris, received certain military waste. Today a portion of the waste has been removed, but 25 drums and 0.5 m3 of rubble remain. According to Andra, no means of evacuating this waste exists. The problem regarding the drums appears to be that they include a total of three grams of tritium. The waste is under lock and key and the site itself is under surveillance.
