Purpose/type: plant for refining and converting uranium

Location: area of about 100 ha, the site of a former sulfur mine, north-west of Narbonne (Aude)

Operator: Comurhex, 100% subsidiary of Cogéma, which in March 2006, became Areva NC

Period of operation: since 1959

Raw materials: materials containing uranium, particularly concentrates, uranyl nitrate, rejects

Nominal capacity: 14,000 t/yr of uranium in uranium hexafluoride and 1500 t/yr of uranium in the form of metal

Actual production: 14,000 t of uranium in uranium hexafluoride in 2005
