LA COMMANDERIE -- shut down

Purpose: production of uranium

Type: former mine and leaching installations

Location: Le Temple et Treize-Vents (Vendée et Deux-Sèvres) in the Mallièvre concession

Operator: Cogéma

Period of operation: mining?; leaching, 1967-1976

Process: surface mine and underground mine; leaching

Raw materials: uranium ore

Cogéma carried out static leaching of low-grade ore on the mine’s surface. On the site are stored 250,000 t of tailings from leaching, containing 1 TBq of radium 226. The tails are covered with waste rock. Remediation of the site has been completed, according to Andra [ 99].
