The arsenal is responsible for the maintenance and the overhauling of the ships based at Toulon, the six attack submarines with nuclear propulsion (SNA) and, starting in 2000, the nuclear-propelled aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle, which replaced the Foch.

The site has facilities for loading and unloading nuclear fuel from at least the submarines and a pool for storing irradiated fuel [défis ii-iii.04]. It stores solid wastes from the ships and the support installations including ion-exchange resins (in 2000, 1623 liters of resins with a total radioactivity of 70 GBq).
