The graphic on the opening page, like the cover of the original book, is the work of Susan Dembowski.  Numerous individuals, organizations, and agencies have contributed information to this website and to the book on which it is based. We are grateful to all of them.

The support of the W. Alton Jones Foundation, which no longer exists, made possible the creation of this website and the 1997 book on which it is based.  The W. Alton Jones Foundation and the  JMG Foundation generously supported the 2001 edition of the book.
